University carts and fleet vehicles are essential to maintaining campus, supporting events, delivering materials, responding to service requests, and more. However, when they are routinely parked on plazas, lawns, and busy pedestrian areas — particularly in the campus core along the West Mall, South Mall, East Mall, and around the Main Building — they can impact safety, accessibility, and the overall experience for our campus community.
Beginning Aug. 24, the University is asking all cart and vehicle operators to avoid parking within the West, South, and East Malls and around the Main Building. Do not park on plazas, courtyards, sidewalks, ADA ramps, breezeways, lawns, and other landscaping. Instead, use designated cart and fleet vehicle parking areas, or park in the back of house (i.e. loading dock areas).
- Work requires temporary unloading or transporting equipment, tools, or materials.
- When direct access is necessary to complete a task safely.
The fall semester will serve as an initial pilot period for this change. Parking and Transportation Services and campus partners will monitor how designated parking areas are being used and make adjustments as needed based on construction activity and operational requirements.
